- Hello dear Mac-TCP/IP-er,
-
- Included in this Archive you will find the application 'MERGE HOSTS'.
- I have written this program for the following reasons:
-
- 1) The hosts.137 (I live in The Netherlands) file I receive every now and then
- contains only lines containing IP-numbers and hostnames. This should be OK,
- BUT... Some hams sometimes address their mail to '<callsign>.AMPR.ORG', and
- even to '<callsign>.BBS'. The last form is also automagically invoked when
- a mail is sent through the MBOX of a TCP/IP-station (I changed that in
- NET/Mac!). When my station tries to find an IP-number for any of these
- to-addresses it can NEVER find it, simply because there is no
- '<callsign>.AMPR.ORG' defined in my hosts.net, which results in sending the
- mail to the smtp-gateway, which in his turn will probably mail it to HIS
- smtp-gateway (etc. etc. etc.). MERGE HOSTS has the ability to add these
- callsigns to hosts.net
- 2) As I said I live in Holland, and the Belgian border is closer to me than
- the most northern province of my country. Therefor it is convenient to
- include the Belgian hosts.144 in my hosts.net. MERGE HOSTS takes care of
- combining these independent (up to 4) hosts.xxx files.
- 3) Because some hosts-files come in as smtp-mail and I sometimes forget to
- save this mail using BM's w command (NO HEADERS), I sometimes end up with a
- hosts.net file that containes the smtp mail-headers. MERGE HOSTS can be
- instructed to skip everything UNTIL the first #-sign, which is usually the
- beginning of the real hosts.xxx file.
- 4) Sometimes hosts-files have blanks (spaces) between IP-number and callsign,
- but usually they will have a tab-character between the two. MERGE HOSTS
- makes sure blank fields are always a tab-character.
-
- I hope you like my program. If not --> Trash. I have tested it under system
- 6.0.7 as well as system 7.0.
-
- Mods in version 3.0.2:
- ----------------------
- -Color Icons
- -Preferences-file now has an Icon
- -Bug fixed, that would crash the Mac when 'hosts.net' was busy
- when Merge Hosts was launched
